Black Rose Minerals Luciferi Collection - swatches & review

Finally I managed to swatch these! It's been forever but I never seemed to have time or bright enough daylight to swatch these but here you go.

 Picture taken here.

Since I've never bought from Black Rose Minerals before let's start from the beginning...

The company

Black Rose Minerals was founded by Rosa Hernandez in 2010. According to the website "some of the most significant sources are nature, art, literature, music, Roman, Greek and Egyptian mythology or the color wheel itself". Products are not repackaged and not tested on animals. If they're vegan or not, it's said in the product itself.

Order process

I ordered on May 13th and the package actually arrived before the end of May which is way within TAT and damn fast otherwise when ordering from USA to Finland.

Package arrived...

So this is what I unwrapped from the package.

Whole Luciferi collection and a tiny envelope with  few samples and a lot of stickers in it.

And what I love about indie makeup companies? This:

Personally written card. Not getting this from bigger companies. Really a nice touch and it reminds that you buy from a person rather than a huge company to whom your money doesn't really mean much in the end.

I didn't swatch the samples and since I haven't even opened them they might go to a giveaway/RAOK package.

The Luciferi collection

I think many of you might've guessed anyway I bought the Luciferi collection out of all the collections available. Collection named after Type O Negative and Marilyn Manson songs/albums etc (plus some more) definitely catches my eye. Even if it's summer and I'm staying in the lighter shades this was something I really needed in my life (yes, NEEDED).

I love the stickers for the collection, so cute!

I ordered the sample jars (1/4 teaspoon in 3g jars). I really hated myself for that when I opened. Even when sealed, 3g jars spill the product between lid and jar itself and since these are dark colours they do make a mess. That's general fault with 3g jars. Next time I know to buy ones with lids.

Here are what the beauties look like in jars.

Swatches and colour descriptions

And the collection swatched on my hand (first one in daylight and second with flash to bring out the glitter/shimmer).

Colour descriptions are taken from the site:

Nobodies - A deep, shimmery electric blue, this one is true to color wet or dry
Paradise Lost - This shade glistens like a deep pool of water, the black base representing the depth below
Tourniquet - A metallic gold in a black base and an ever so slight tint of a green highlight gives just a bit of a twist
Runes - A deep and dark forest green
Steele - This dark and glittery steel shade has a matte black base to deepen the tone
Scabbed Wings - This devilish little number starts with a black base, orange undertones show off a bronzy duotone. Finish that off with violet sparks for quite a shocking twist (should be swatched on sticky base, my base wasn't too sticky so the colours might be a bit off)
Coma Black - This darkly deep violet shimmers ever so slightly but smolders all the way
Bloody Kisses - This deep metallic red will set you on fire for sure

Where to buy?

There are few different ways to buy the full set of Luciferi collection:

Sample baggie is 1/8 teaspoon
Sample jar is 1/4 teaspoon in a 3 gram jar
Full jar without a sifter is approximately 3/4-1 teaspoon
Full jar with a sifter is approximately 1/2-3/4 teaspoon

Prices start from $6.40 and end to $40 depending on which one you take.

What do I think of them?

I really love the colours! I would like to think Paradise Lost is for the band instead of the book (since I couldn't read the book, way too hard English for me). I love collections that are named based on things I like (music, geeky things, tv shows) and I'm more likely to buy them than something I have no interest on. I think a lot of people are like that.
I love the colour payoff, they are also easy to work with (as easy as any dark shimmery loose shades).

Would I buy from them again?

Yes, I would. There are few other collections and random eyeshadows I'd like to try from Black Rose Minerals.

Where else to find the company?

Black Rose Minerals has a Facebook page and a blog.

  1. This is still my favourite collection from BRM for a variety of reasons :D Rosa is a sweetheart and always delivers 100% perfect CS and product. I've never had a problem :)
The only problem I ever have is choosing from her massive selection! :O
hehe I made the switch to purchasing sifters with sample jars too because I'm messy!

  4. Eleni - yeah it took a while for me to choose too but this collection looks like me so... had to get it :D

Rosa - no need to apologize! I asked around and they do tend to leak. I think I've only had lighter colours in 3 gram jars so haven't paid as much attention to the leak before :)

Mandy - yay for more makeup! :D
